Summer hair care

We all know how harmful the summer sun is for our skin and we take extra care for it. But apart from your skin, sun can wreck equal havoc with our hair as well. As a result, our hair becomes dull, lifeless, limp, frizzy and extremely dry. We tend to lose the bounce in our hair because of the humidity in the atmosphere which leads to sweating as well. Sweating and dust particles increase hair problems like split ends, dandruff and increased hair fall.

Summer sun can be extremely harmful for our scalp as well causing a lot of dryness and itching in the scalp which results in damaged roots of the hair. The biggest mistake we all do in summers trying to cure our hair from all the problems is over treating and over washing our hair. Washing your hair too often in the summers also adds up to further dryness and leaving sweating hair unwashed for long might add to another problems and further damage.

Right knowledge for hair care and right ways for protection might help in healthy and happy hair. Here are some of the ways to protect your hair this summer and have a happy hair everyday.

Here you go:

  1. Conditioning

Make sure you use a conditioner after every wash to restore the moisture in the hair. Choose a conditioner which best suits your hair type. Rinsing your hair with apple cider vinegar diluted in water also works as a natural conditioner for your hair.

  1. Say no to heat

Since your hair is already highly exposed to a lot of heat on a daily basis in summer, avoid additional heat as much as possible. Your hair will get ample time to air dry in the heat anyway so give a break to blow dryers, curling rods or flat irons as well. Keep your hair natural this summer. Increased heat will damage your hair further and dry them out more.

  1. Trim your hair

Split ends and dry tips is one of the most common problem faced by almost every one of us during summer and it’s very unhealthy for the hair as well. Trim your hair regularly to reduce split ends and        bring back life to your hair.

  1. Colored hair care

Go for products which are specially made for colored or treated hair. If you have colored hair or have recently colored them, you must take extra care because chemically treated hair are more prone to excessive damage from sun as compared to normal hair resulting in faded color and excessive dryness.

  1. Cover your hair

Try covering your hair with a scarf or a hat during direct sun exposure to sun for long hours; it will not only protect the hair from the sun but also from the dust particles and humidity outside. And moreover it will also reduce the damage caused by wind as well which leads to tangles in the hair.

Use summer months to show off your hair in different styles from braids to ponytails, buns and knots. Not only it will keep your hair protected from sun damage but also control the frizz factor in your hair as you will tend to sweat less with tied hair than loose hair.

Use a hair serum after washing your hair to keep the frizz at bay.

You may be doing all or some of the above to protect your hair during summers but if you are not drinking enough water, you won’t be able to achieve anything. Your hair and skin benefits the most from the diet you take and the amount of fluid intake during the day. Keep your self hydrated by adding fresh juices or coconut water for healthy hair and glowing skin as well. Keeping your diet healthy and including lots of vegetables and fruits in the diet will show great results as well.
